Cold Farewell.

July 14, 2009 at 7:42 am (Uncategorized)

A subtle descent into that body of might,
who would’ve known?
would lead to the end… the end of all light.

She went, willingly, succumbing to desire,
down into the river, that river of fire.
A moment of happiness, a glimpse of content,
and then it happened… away, away she went.

A mere slip it was, a slip of fate,
as Lucifer spoke….”check-mate”!

But that man, brave enough, jumped in,
perhaps out of love, for that poor maiden.
He felt, he knew, she was beyond his hold,
but he swam nevertheless, through that body of cold.

He swam, relentless, against the current, along the bend.
He swam, he swam….. he swam…. to his end.
His efforts, unmatchable, were painfully in vain,

Such strong love, I hope, through generations will remain.

May their souls rest in peace.

I read it this night and I am blown. Certainly one of the truly admirable specimens of contemporary poetry. I think with some complementing chords, we can make a power ballad out of the words.
